Whether you are looking for a high-performance graphics card or a powerful card for your mobile device, the Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 mobile is a great choice. The card is based on Pascal architecture and offers various performances. It is also very power efficient, offering an excellent balance between performance and power draw.

Performance

We found that it performed well during our testing of the Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 mobile. It also matched other cards in both minimum and average results. The card was able to run all of the games that we tested with over 40 fps. However, its performance could have been better than the AMD Radeon R9 290X.

The GTX 980 could run games at a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. This is more than the 3840 x 1080 pixels at which the AMD Radeon R9 290X can run. It also used Multi-Frame Sampled Anti-Aliasing to achieve better results.

The GTX 980 also has a metal back plate, which is removable. This allows multiple cards to be installed on a single PC.

Power draw

During testing, the PNY GTX 980 XLR8 had power consumption on par with the reference design. It also delivered a well-balanced set of results, keeping its temperature low while maintaining low fan speeds.

The PCIE power connection draws 60 watts, while the 6-pin connection draws 85 watts. The PCIE power connection is where the power supply plugs into the PCIe power port.

The GeForce GTX 980 uses four 64-bit memory controllers and is clocked at 7 GHz. It has a total of 5.2 billion transistors. It is built on the same 28nm manufacturing process as the GTX 970, allowing for higher efficiency.

The GM204 chip on the GTX 980 is 72 percent smaller than the Titan processor, which increases power efficiency. The chip also features a 256-bit memory bus, which reduces power consumption.

GPU architecture

Unlike its predecessors, the GeForce GTX 980 mobile is based on a new architecture, Maxwell. This architecture is designed to make it more power efficient than its predecessors. It also makes it faster, thanks to a 256-bit comprehensive memory interface.

The new GPU architecture includes a GM204 chip, built with four Graphics Processing Clusters, or GPCs. Each GPC is comprised of 16 SMMs or Streaming Multiprocessors.

The GM204 memory subsystem is hooked up to 7Gbps GDDR5 memory. This is the fastest memory in the industry. It includes a 256-bit memory interface, a larger L2 cache, and improved delta colour compression algorithms.

The GPU architecture of the GeForce GTX 980 mobile is based on a 16nm FinFET chip design, which helps increase compute density and power efficiency. The PCB of the GPU has been optimized.

Comparison with Radeon R9 290X

NVIDIA has announced a new video card, the Geforce GTX 780 Ti. To assess its performance, we put it up against the fastest single-chip video card from AMD, the Radeon R9 290X.

The Geforce GTX 780 Ti has an impressive 384-bit memory interface. Its 3 gigabytes should be more than enough for today’s games in UltraHD (4K) resolution. However, it also has the fastest memory bandwidth on the market.

The Geforce GTX 780 Ti is based on the GK110 graphics chip. The GPU has 2880 CUDA stream processors, 240 texture units, and 48 raster operations pipelines. The Geforce GTX 780 Ti’s 384-bit memory interface is similar to the GTX Titan’s. The GTX 780 Ti can also run in SLI configuration.

The Geforce GTX 780 Ti also has many other technological advances. For example, the GPU has 15 SMX clusters, a 251 MHz increase in its video processor, and a slick 384-bit interface.

Other graphics cards

Powered by NVIDIA’s new Maxwell architecture, the GeForce GTX 980 graphics card offers desktop-class mobile performance. This new GPU architecture reorganizes cores into smaller execution units to reduce power consumption and increase efficiency.

GTX 980 offers an impressive 30 to 50% performance boost over the GeForce GTX 980M, but it also provides a slight advantage over the GeForce GTX 780 Ti. In addition to DirectX 12 support, the GeForce GTX 980 offers a DVI dual-link port and HDMI 2.0 connector.

NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 980 Mobile graphics card is built on a 28nm process. It features 128 texture mapping units and 64 ROPs. It also runs at 1064 MHz.

The GeForce GTX 980 Mobile graphics processor uses a 256-bit memory interface. This allows for better power phase efficiency and higher clock rates. It also supports a 4K/60Hz format.
